(More customer reviews)Our bed is very high and our dogs are aging, thus, the choice to purchase stairs. We wanted wooden stairs with attached "carpet runners" but could find none manufactured to our height requirement - then we discovered the Pet Gear Soft Step III in a search here on Amazon. Although the service from Amazon was stellar (as usual), the Pet Gear Soft Step stairs were quite disappointing.
Issues:
1) cover of box recommends small pet use vs. description as ok for large dog (to 150lbs);
2) the cover is slipperly, thin and not a snug fit - no "grab-ability" necessary for climbing;
3) the four plastic "feet tabs" on stair base pieces are NOT non-skid;
4) individual pieces are merely hard plastic with hollow cores - for a 150lb dog?
5) steps may seem wide but not for a large breed;
6) our steps would not assemble fully - 2 pieces would not attach - and those that did attach, we did not find they "snapped" together.
7) steps slope downward - older dogs are going to fall on these at some point defeating the purpose of providing a safe alternative for dogs.
Bottom line: NOT recommended for large or giant breeds. I am not sure I would recommend for even large medium breeds.
OUR SOLUTION: We bought a covered bench from a local furniture store for the base of our bed: it hides the toys and blankets inside, has a wonderfully cushioned top, is adjustable 13 - 16" high (feet may be removed) and no training required (they go up and down with no hesitation). Oh, and we bought microfiber material so it cleans up with Shout wipes and we can have it re-covered ensuring years of use!

They are So wonderful, we bought another Mickey's 2 Step Dog Stair to have in my son's room for the dog to get up to his bed.Now, my other son has two dogs that need assistance, so we bought a Mickey's Stair for his house!You will not find a more sturdy pet Stair anywhere and we have looked on line and around the stores in our area. Dogs, especially as they age, should not jump down and jar their joints. And those with bowed out legs, such as a Bulldog, should never jump off anything.
What is exceptional is that they are wide - and easy for a larger dog to get a good footing. Wonderful service and the company has them sent out to you quickly! You will love them! A great and useful gift for anyone with a pet!

1. They don't stick out too far into the middle of the room.
2. They are acceptable as furniture (yes, plastic but not cheap-junk-looking) with a neutral color (well... ideally, I'd like color choices).
3. Even I could put them together, although I had to examine the picture very closely.
This is what my toy poodle likes about them:
1. Even when she hits them at a run (which she does) they don't skitter across the floor. As a matter of fact, the steps have not moved at all since I placed them.
2. The steps have backs, so you don't see scary empty space when you are learning to use them.
3. The steps have some depth and are surprisingly broad so you don't have to tiptoe up and down. They are slightly tilted backward for a feeling of security.
4. The carpet treads give your paws good purchase and that mean no scary slipping on the steps.
I did have to take time to teach my very timid dog how to use them. First going up, by placing her back feet on the bottom step and her front paws on the top. Then I could just put her front feet on the bottom step and let her scramble up. Down was the same--shaping behavior while giving reassurance by keeping my hands gently around her. It only took 3 or 4 days and then she could go up and down with confidence and pride. Even that, I think, happened only because I'd had cheaper steps in the past that had frightened her because they moved and wobbled so easily. These steps look and feel safe to a dog. I'd recommend them to anyone with a small dog who needs some independence getting on and off bed or couch.
One warning: This size is not tall enough for most beds (although just right for a couch). I chose this size for the compactness and because I could place the steps against one end of the chest at the foot of my bed. The dog climbs to the blanket chest and then to the bed (kind of like one more step). It's perfect for my needs, but I did measure first to be sure.

(More customer reviews)These steps were about the best plastic ones I could find but they are just okay. Other steps commercially available were way too small and narrow and definitely not suitable for our 10-year-old 50lb boxer. These were, at least, easy to assemble. These steps "give" a bit when she steps on them and the lightweight, hollow plastic pieces make the unit feel less-than-sturdy even when placed on a non-slip rug. The steps are are tilted at a slight upward angle which makes them a little awkward for her when decending, a simple right angle step would have been better. Overall, she doesn't really care for them and they are now just taking up space in our closet. For inexpensive plastic steps, these are okay, just not the steps I was hoping for. I guess I'll have to build my own wooden ones to get the quality I really want.

(More customer reviews)I have had these steps now for almost a year. I bought them thru Amazon and actually paid a little more for them then than they are now so that makes them an even better deal now.
They are sturdy, well built, easy to clean and a snap to fold and store.
Some people said that they found them to be wobbly or that their pet slipped off the side - That might be true if you can only use them in the direction they are shown in the picture however I turned them sideways so that one side of the bed was on the long side of the steps and my 8 lb dog and 13 lb older cat have no problem using them. Unless they have changed them since I bought mine, I was very impressed with how stable they are.

So far I haven't been able to train my dog to use the stairs so I still have to pick him up to get him on and off the bed. However, I still like the stairs- they are wide, are easy to clean and are a neutral color.
